Preparation for the 2014 World Cup Has Begun in Earnest, Which Includes Reviewing Disability Insurance Policies

The 2014 World Cup is fast approaching and should make soccer players think about career-ending injury protection. Some of the worst soccer injuries happen from the waist down like sprains, knee injuries, and broken ankles and legs. Head injuries can also occur in soccer due to collisions between players and heading the ball incorrectly. Professional players are already aware of the proper way to train for injury-free games but accidents can still happen, which is why private disability insurance is such a necessity for all professional athletes.

Players will also have to acclimate themselves to the climate in Brazil, which many may not be accustomed to. The heat and humidity can cause added stress to the body, possibly leading to further injuries: “Being in the largest jungle on the planet, Manaus’ climate is extremely hot and humid all year long, with 70 percent chance of rain every day and an average temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 centigrade) in June. Not the best weather to play sports in, as England coach Roy Hodgson put it.” (Swine Flu Gives Brazil Another World Cup Headache: International Business Times, May 15, 2014).

“Professional players need to prepare themselves with a private disability insurance policy no matter what team they are on,” explains Frank N. Darras, America’s top disability insurance lawyer.“Unexpected injuries may occur at the drop of a hat so don’t leave something as important as your income to chance. The World Cup is going to be an exciting time for millions of fans around the globe. They won’t want to see their team favorites off the roster due to a disabling injury so hopefully all athletes will do their best to stay injury-free!”

Disability insurance has been a recommended resource for pro-athletes like soccer players for years. They often consider adding an own-occupation disability insurance clause onto their policy. Own-occupation is meant for those who spend years mastering their craft and want to be specifically protected in what they do, so it’s crucial for athletes as well as other skilled workers like lawyers and doctors.

“Be sure to speak to an expert before the World Cup games begin to make sure your policy is up-to-date and written to your specifications. Serious injuries can happen on the field at any time so it pays to be prepared. Your future income is important both to you and your family. Without a disability insurance policy, your financial future may be in jeopardy so talk with an expert today,” says Darras.
