Frequently Asked Questions
What are Pre-Existing Limitations?
Frank Darras:
“Pre-Existing Limitation looks backwards in time from the day you bought the policy. So if you bought the policy on January 2nd, most Pre-Ex Limitations go back 12 months. And it applies if you saw a doctor, received medical treatment, were suggested to get medical treatment, or if you were prescribed medications, even if you didn’t take it, or you had any kind of testing. The carrier will look backwards in time, a year or two years, and apply a Pre-Ex. So before you call for those claim forms, think long and hard about every doctor you’ve seen, all the medications you’ve been prescribed, even if you didn’t fill them, or any tests that you’ve gotten, whether it’s a year or two years from the date the policy was issued.”
