ONTARIO, Calif.

ONTARIO, Calif., March 23 /PRNewswire/ — On March 27th and 28th, Western State University in Fullerton, CA, will host the Second Annual Frank N. Darras Moot Court Competition. The competition is named in honor of Frank N. Darras, the nation’s leading disability and long-term care insurance lawyer.

This year, a total of sixteen competing teams will brief and argue their assigned sides of the matter of Munson (Kenneth) v. Del Taco, Inc., currently pending before the California Supreme Court, California Supreme Court docket number S162818. See www.darrasnews.com.

This year, Frank N. Darras will be joined on the judge’s panel for the final round by Associate Justice Richard D. Fybel, California Appellate Court District Four, Division Three, and Western State University College of Law Dean Maryann Jones.

Prizes will be awarded to visiting teams. First place will be awarded $1250, second, $800 and $250 will go respectively to the Best Brief and Best Oralist.

“This is the last time we will hold the Moot Court Competition in the spring. Western State University plans to move the competition dates to October. Since the Darras Moot Court Competition focuses on disability insurance law, the fall opens up an opportunity to get more teams from across the country who will concentrate on this dynamic subject,” says James A. Hayes, Jr., Assistant Dean of Academic Programs and Associate Professor Western State University College of Law.

Insurance law is complicated and this competition affords law students the opportunity to evaluate and understand important nuances that make it a rewarding practice area. Considering that nearly everyone in America has some type of insurance, it is important that premium paying policyholders are represented by lawyers who know insurance law inside and out.

“Insurance companies make it difficult to collect your benefits, often delaying and denying policyholders, in uncertain economic times. With terrific competitions like this, great new insurance lawyers come out of law school trained and ready,” says Frank N. Darras.

DarrasLaw is Americas' most honored and decorated disability litigation firm in the country. Mr. Darras has seen more, evaluated more, litigated more, and resolved more individual and group long term disability and long-term care cases than any other lawyer in the United States.
